Bad Start For Wainwright Dooms Cardinals

Adam Wainwright allowed nine runs in the first two innings as the St. Louis Cardinals found themselves on the wrong side of a 10-0 blowout provided by the Cincinnati Reds.

Wainwright had thrown 128 pitches in his most recent start, a complete game, but lasted just the opening two frames Wednesday night. Jay Bruce drove in five runs overall with a two-run double in the first and a three-run homer in the second.

The Cardinals still completed a successful 5-2 homestand, taking series over both the Braves and Reds. St. Louis heads to Pittsburgh with a 0.5 game lead, with the Pirates finishing their series with Miami tomorrow night.

Game one between the Pirates and Cardinals is set for Friday night, with coverage on KTGR at 5:10 PM.
