A four-run fourth gave the Houston Astros a lead they wouldn’t relinquish as they beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-3, Wednesday night.
The Cards started out well on a two-run, first-inning home run by Yadier Molina and an Allen Craig solo shot in the fourth inning.
The Astros responded in the bottom half by loading the bases and breaking the scoring seal with a walk to Carlos Peña forcing in their first run. The second run came on an J.D. Martinez RBI-groundout, and singles by Brett Wallace and Brandon Barnes gave Houston the lead.
Lance Lynn lasted seven and 2/3 innings but the faulty fourth gave him just his second loss of the season. The Cards had men on base while trailing in every inning aside from the seventh, but could not score.
The St. Louis Cardinals have their second day off this week before starting a three-game series in Oakland on Friday. The pregame begins at 8:10 PM Friday night on KTGR with Shelby Miller facing Bartolo Colon.
