Adams’ Second Homer Wins It In Sweet Sixteen
Matt Adams had two extra-inning home runs, the latter of which gave the St. Louis Cardinals a 5-4, 16-inning victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
Adams looked to have won the game in the 14th, but the Reds countered after Billy Hamilton stole second base on a controversial no-call with Zack Cozart straddling the plate trying to impede Yadier Molina. Cozart then singled Hamilton home to tie the score at four.
The Cards first baseman, who entered the game for the injured Allen Craig, came up in his next at bat and hit another no-doubter, pushing the Cardinals back to within a game of first-place Pittsburgh.
Carlos Martinez turned in two scoreless innings for the victory.
St. Louis tries to salvage a split with the final game of the series, Thursday, with coverage on KTGR at 5:15 PM.
